Matter and What Matters
The Earth is a nearly closed system.
No new matter arrives.
None leaves.
The matter in our bodies has been here from the beginning, endlessly changing form.
Which means the matter that makes up you and me was once part of something else.
A different child.
Another grandmother.
A horseshoe crab.
A coral reef.
And someday what is now called you and me will become something else entirely.
A future hand.
A desert cactus.
A blue whale.
Maybe this is what matters.
Not the forms themselves, but the way life keeps passing itself from one to another.
The way life keeps making us from one another.

Even a bat.
I absolutely love this. You are part of me and I am part of you. We all came from the same place and who knows where we will end up?! A blade of grass, a four leaf clover, a cloud or butter!
